Prison Ministry Conference 2025

From prison ministry, a call to evangelize the nation, transform society and revitalize the church

What is?

The Prison Ministry Conference is a two-day international event entirely dedicated to the ministry of evangelism in prisons. It offers an exceptional opportunity to share experiences, find inspiration and strengthen the network of those dedicated to serving prisoners.

Numerous experiences will be presented and discussed, including the implementation of the Alpha course in prisons and other programs aimed at the recovery and social reintegration of former inmates.

The event is a key time to receive encouragement, prayer and renew one’s commitment to the mission of evangelization in prisons and their respective communities.

Answering the Call

This year’s theme is “Answering the call: restart, renew, restore.” We believe that society and the Church today, more than ever, are called to take the good news of Jesus everywhere, even to the most difficult and forgotten places.

We are convinced that the reintegration of prisoners into society is fundamental to the renewal and regeneration of our community. A journey that requires the commitment of everyone: probation officers, chaplains, volunteers and community leaders, united by a common goal.

Are you a staff member of correctional institutions or other agencies involved in educational projects for inmates and former inmates and projects in and out of prison? Are you a volunteer doing Alpha’s ministry in prison or other correctional or recovery centers? Do you feel involved with Christ’s message “I was imprisoned and you came to visit me”? This call “Assisi (ITA) May 15 and 16, 2025” is for you!

Emily Wilson

Emily lived in London for more than 50 years and worked as a nurse for 14 years, also specializing in pediatrics. She ended her health care career in 1985 to join Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB), focusing on vulnerable people with AIDS, drug addiction, alcoholism and homelessness.

From 1991 he began working with the chaplain of Holloway Prison, the largest women’s prison in London, and in 1994 he took Alpha to other prison institutions in the UK. Since 1995 she has promoted Alpha to prisons in more than 40 countries, including Rwanda, India and the USA.

In 2011 she was ordained Chaplain of World Prisons in Uganda, expanding her efforts to include combating human trafficking. She visited places of exploitation in India to raise awareness and help victims find freedom.

Retiring from HTB’s staff in 2023, she continues her service as Alpha’s Global Ambassador to support the Church worldwide.

Paul Cowley MBE

Paul was born in Manchester into a family marked by alcoholism and abuse. At 15, he ran away from home and ended up in prison. He later joined the army, where he served for 17 years in Northern Ireland and the Falklands.

After leaving the military, he worked as a manager of prestigious clubs in London. In 1994, he attended an Alpha course, became a Christian, and started visiting prisons. He launched the Alpha course in prisons, now present in 80% of UK prisons and over 60 countries.

In 2002, he was ordained as a priest, and in 2005 he founded “Caring for Ex-Offenders,” helping more than 2000 ex-prisoners reintegrate. In 2016, he received an MBE from Queen Elizabeth for his work with ex-offenders. He has served as a chaplain and advisor for prisons, and he is currently the Director of Rehabilitation for Iceland Foods, helping former prisoners find work and reintegrate into society.
